I'm thrilled to share that I've partnered with an Australian based web design company to offer all of our VA Directory members a website. It has a 30 day free trail to play with it and, after that, if the VA decides they want to keep it, it's just a small monthly fee. The sites are built in WordPress which means the VA can export the site to another server further down the track, if they wish, and they can modify it as they wish, as they get familiar with the workings of WordPress. Google and … [Read more...]
Learnings in the VA Industry
The Australian VA Conference is literally only 3 weeks away - well, a bit less than that as it will start 3 weeks today. eek! Not that far away! I can tell you the AVAC committee and I are working behind the scenes to get everything ready for you and in place, and we are in regular contact with our presenters. The winners for the recent competitions will be announced very soon - I've had others involved in helping me choose the winners. So hang tight, you'll hear soon. In the meantime, I'd … [Read more...]
Looking for Virtual Assistant work?
If you have good office based skills, chances are you could become a Virtual Assistant and work at home fulltime. Thousands are doing it, so why not you? I celebrate 18 years of fulltime business this month (on the 24th to be exact). While it's not all been a bed of roses I can tell you I wouldn't swap the experience for a corporate job any day. The benefits of being at home fulltime far outweigh the benefits of working in a corporate job. I love the environment I work in, I love being here … [Read more...]
What is your VA business worth to you?
I can't answer that question, only you can. But I can tell you what it's been worth to me. Almost 18 years at home working fulltime, instead of in someone else's office. No more wasted time travelling to and fro. Being present for my family when they've really needed me. Not having to ask for time off when an emergency arises - and believe me there have been a few in those 18 years. Being able to choose what training I wanted to do - things that were relevant to my business, the work I … [Read more...]
Australian VA Conference 2012
Have you caught up with the news yet? The 2012 Australian VA Conference will be held in Melbourne, Australia 4-5 May. We elected to shift to the May date because of problems with the March date we'd been having for the past couple of years. Proposals are in from speakers, we'll be announcing our program very soon but we can promise that there will be lots there for all VAs - newbies and experienced, alike, and those in between too. And, if you know someone who isn't a VA but does operate a … [Read more...]

Why would you join BNI?
There's been a discussion on a VA forum recently about the value of joining BNI as a Virtual Assistant. If you don't know what BNI is it stands for Business Network International and can be found at www.bni.com internationally or here in Australia, bni.com.au. I belong to the Melbourne East region. I joined when it first came to Melbourne around 10 or 11 years ago and was a member for over 5 years. Things changed for me on the business front and I decided to leave BNI for a time. My husband … [Read more...]
Joining a Virtual Assistant Network makes sense
I use Google Alert a lot to keep me informed of the industry and also about things relating to my clients' businesses. One thing I often see are blogs about where to find a Virtual Assistant or comments on blogs from new VAs who are keen to find work, clients and learn more about the industry they've joined. What amazes me is that a simple Google search will direct people to the Virtual Assistant Networks that are out there and yet so many seem to miss this fact. Virtual Assistant Networks or … [Read more...]
Start working at home next year
At this time of year thoughts turn to the new year that's coming. Will we continue doing what we've been doing? Will we do something new? Is now the time to make a change? For many the dream of working at home is still that. A dream. They wonder if it will ever become possible? For some it will. I've been very fortunate and have worked in my own home office for nearly 17 years. It hasn't been easy but it has definitely been worthwhile and rewarding. To spend every day where my family … [Read more...]
