I’m a new Virtual Assistant, do I need a website?

This was a question posted at a VA forum very recently and it is something often asked by those entering our industry.  She wanted to know if creating a flyer for now would do as she didn’t want to spend money on a website till she had work coming in.

What did I advise them?

If you’re not going to have a website then I encourage you to join one or more of the VA networks that provide an online listing for you so you have a presence online and you can use that as your web page address for prospective clients. There you will be able to list your services, although you won’t have any say in the layout as they usually have a set template designed.

A flyer for sending to clients is a good thing but they first need to know about you.  Networking both online and offline amongst business owners (not VAs but other businesses) is a good way for people to get to know you exist.

    Hi

A VA without a website is like a mechanic without a set of spanners. Because we work in a virtual world, we are expected to have a web presence. Also, sometimes our potential clients are afraid of doing things virtually, if you have an online presence it is much more reassuring for them.

Having said that do not get sucked into paying too much. If your website is going to have a few pages, you should be able to get it done for under $500.

Feel free to contact me if you need a hand with this.

    Regards

I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don’t know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.

And I should say that I also provide websites and blogsites, as well as hosting for Virtual Assistants. http://www.acs-webhosting.com. It is just another way I can assist the industry.

All I know is that once I had my first website live, it made marketing my business a whole lot easier. Ultimately you have to go with your budget. If you simply cannot afford a website, make sure you have a listing on a VA network.
