Working In The Front Line

I’m a firm believer that it’s important to get involved in local community and local groups. Even as a virtual operator, there is still the need to get to know local business people and others around me. Not all my business has to come from online methods and it’s true that there are people down the road or around the corner who could also use my services. But how do I let them know I’m here?

I join a local networking group. Currently it’s the local Chamber of Commerce but in the past it has been other groups such as BNI, Leads Club, the local council business networking group and so on. I’ve never been content to just be a member – I have to be more than that, and it usually pays off.

Any group that is run by volunteers is sadly lacking in people to help run them and keep things going smoothly. Those of us in the virtual assistant industry have the perfect skills to utilise for these groups, whether it be as a secretary, treasurer, membership officer, events co-ordinator, newsletter editor, registration desk, president – whatever skills you have can usually be applied in one of the leadership roles. And by being in a leadership role, it means you are in the ‘front line’. When members come along to events or when new members join up, who do they connect with? Those who are in the ‘front line’.

What better way to get to meet people and let them know who you are and what you do? And by being in one of those roles you get to demonstrate your abilities. Why not look to see what groups are local to you and go and join one – and don’t stop there. Get involved! KMT
