Welcome to ACS News

Hello, my name is Kathie Thomas and you are on this newsletter list because you have subscribed to my website. Or perhaps we've met and you've given me your business card so we could stay in touch. Welcome to all new subscribers.

Thank you for joining us and your interest and also to those who have been clients of "A Clayton's Secretary" over the past 15 years.

This month I have the following for you.

  • Developing Your Presence Online - userIDs
  • Using RSS Feeds To Keep Up To Date
  • Need a speaker?

Developing Your Presence Online

Just recently my VA team and I have been discussing Twitter and many are just learning about this relatively new social networking tool. Like most 'new' things out there I watch for a little while to see what kind of interest they are getting and then jump on board if it feels 'right' for me to do so. Sometimes it might be because a client has requested that I explore that program for them even if I don't quite feel ready for it myself.

Whenever setting up an account for anything like a discussion forum, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, leaving comments on blogs, etc I've thought carefully about my userID. I read a long time ago about the importance of branding yourself when online and I took that seriously.

And so I want to encourage you to think carefully about the presence you are leaving on the web and how you portray yourself. If you use the same UserID all the time people can Google that and find all the places you've been - that could be a good thing and a bad thing - depending on how you behave online. It will also help you find those long forgotten places you joined some time ago and haven't visited for awhile.

If you're interested in finding out more about social networking tools and how to use them, then please visit my blog SOHO-Life.com and check the menu categories for the different tools. I regularly update posts there as I come across different things or people ask questions. I also have a free ebook giveaway for those who want to learn about blogging.

Using RSS Feeds To Keep Up To Date

I find http://www.google.com/reader/ a really useful tool. Not only can I subscribe to multiple blogs and read them in the one place instead of having to remember their URLs to visit (or enter my email address to subscribe and get lots of emails) I can also view many board chat forums via RSS too which is really useful if you want to keep up with the thread of discussions but not have to log into a site regularly each day.

I wrote about this at length in April 2008 and thought I would bring your attention to it as there are many new on this list but also as time goes by and we become more familiar with technology, some newer ideas become more easily accepted. So why not pop over and read that article now?

Need a speaker for your event?

“Worth More Than Rubies is a great starting place for moms who desire to work from home. Packed full of practical, useful information as well as the story of Kathie's own journey, I know this will bless many, many women.”
~ Jill Hart, CWAHM.com

Are you working for your family or because of your family?

This topic really hit home for me. It made me feel good about working from home, I felt validated. Kathie's stories about her family and what it meant for her to work from home and what it meant for her family to have her there just made the whole conference worthwhile. Everything else was a bonus.

Kathie M. Thomas has twice been nominated for "Australian of the Year" for 'setting high standards of excellence and contributing in ways that inspire the community'. Kathie has also been listed in Australia's Who's Who of Australian Women 2009 and has received many awards for her business in the past 15 years. She gives women permission to return home and shares with the audience how she did exactly that, bringing up 5 daughters, while establishing a new industry, using skills she'd developed in the corporate world for over 20 years.

Where is Kathie speaking this year?

  • April 2009 -
  • May 5 2009 - “How to Gain Control of Your Website From Your Webmaster”. Kathie will teach you some tricks on how to have a website you can update by yourself.  Produced by The Productivity Queen
  • June 2009 - FoVA Conference in Niagara Falls, Canada. In Canada whole of June. If you're a VA in the northern hemisphere I hope you're planning to attend this event - I would love to meet you!

Kathie can speak at your next meeting, seminar, conference or church and you can find her full itinerary at her site. She speaks on the following topics:

  • Email Etiquette
  • Blogging for business or a book/Social Networking
  • Hidden Benefits of Working at Home
  • Mothers are Worth More Than Rubies
  • It's a Virtual World

About Our Organisation…

What is a Virtual Assistant?

It's a term for home-based secretaries, administrative and secretarial support, and others who supply remote or virtual office support.

Think of a corporate office with a Personal Assistant or Secretary who sits outside the bosses' office providing him/her with admin/secretarial support. Now place that PA or Secretary in a different building - still providing that support but contact is done via email and phone instead of face-to-face. Well, that's how a Virtual Assistant (VA) works.

We are as close to you as your computer and can do almost anything traditional support staff do - except virtually. You don't need to provide office space, equipment, software or furniture - we have our own!

Location no issue as the work is carried out 'virtually' no matter where you are!  However, if you need someone locally we can supply. See our list at VA Directory
