Many readers, but not all, will know that I'm passionate about our Virtual Assistant industry and have been a part of it for a long time, over 20 years, in fact. Some months ago I came across a site called Quora and I've been answering questions there about being a VA and how VAs can help their clients. This month I've passed over 12,000 views in total, with 2,000 being just this month - and am currently listed as the most viewed writer for that category. It has been an excellent way to further … [Read more...]
My Story
I was chatting to a member of my network today. We'd jointly gone for a meeting to see a potential sponsor for the Australian VA Conference which is being held next month (March 2015) in Melbourne. The owner of the printing business decided to share his story with us and the reasons why he supports some businesses and organisations over others. Basically his work life and goals are driven by what he believes God would have him do. He's built a very successful printing business although he, … [Read more...]
A day in the life of a senior VA
If you're a regular reader of my blog and visitor to my site, you'll know that I run a Virtual Assistant Network and also provide VA Training via a 10 week course delivered by email. Many may think I don't do much else, other than participate on forums and social media, but I thought I'd give you some insight to what I do. I still service my own clients. Why? Because it's part of my income stream but also because I enjoy the work I do. I currently provide Secretariat services for an NFP … [Read more...]
Blog writing challenge
I was invited to participate in a writing blog challenge - because I love to write! Below are the questions I was asked, with my answers and under that the people I'm tagging to continue this on. And this is all about writing! 1) What am I working on? I’m always working on ideas for new posts to my Virtual Assistant blog. With over 900 articles written since 2005 I’m always looking for new angles, new ways to share information. 2) How does my work differ from others of its genre? I write … [Read more...]
Do you know your why?
This morning I had a session with a new coach. I say 'new' because she's new to me, but she's been doing what she does for some years. Younger than I am but a very inspirational lady, who founded a school in Zimbabwe and coaches other women about their roles in life and their businesses. She challenged me to think about my 'why?'. Why I'm still doing what I do and had my 'why?' changed from all those years ago. Twenty years ago my 'why?' was simply to be home full time for our five growing … [Read more...]
Combining passion and work
Those who have known me for awhile know that I have a passion for nature and photography, and over recent years, have been building up a photography website and tons of photos during my free time. Applying the skills I've learnt in my VA business, I've been able to do a number of things such as setting up a website and blog, Facebook page, and spending time networking with other photographers as I work on improving my skills and abilities in that arena. Two years ago I attended a 2 day … [Read more...]
Celebrating 20 years in business March 2014
It's almost here and I can barely believe it. Where have all those years gone? I do remember the excitement and the nervousness of branching out on my own and leaving the stability and safety of a government job back in 1993. Family and work events had been leading me to this point... where I would decide to be home full-time and develop a business so I could be home for my own children. As it turned out, it was also for my husband. There have been accidents and illnesses where he's needed me … [Read more...]
Video clip about how a Virtual Assistant can help a business client
I've taken the plunge and had a video created for my website. I'd held off for quite awhile. I'm not a fan of videos for a number of reasons: I don't like those that start as soon as you visit a site. I don't like how-to sites that only produce videos and not text instructions as well (I prefer to read ahead to what I want to know, rather than wait for that bit on the video). And so many I've seen are 'off-the-cuff' and not very professional at all (usually web cam). The cost seemed quite … [Read more...]
“Work at Home” Day
Ken & Lucy from LightFM were chatting about Thursday 9th May being 'Work at Home' Day. They were inviting listeners to text in and vote for one or the other as to who should be working at home on that day. Ken, at one time, was encouraging listeners to vote for him and he mentioned 'having a day off'. My ears pricked up at that. I was on the road at the time so found a safe spot to pull over so I could text him and let him know that working at home does NOT mean having a day off. It means … [Read more...]
